My Journey III

In previous blog i already share some of my experience in Portsmouth, today i want to share regarding my visit to London, i went to London on 18th January by car from Portsmouth to London Heathrow, the motorway or the highway is absolutely free, no toll for all of my way from Portsmouth to London, due to congestion in town, i will travel all by myself to city of London by London Tube, it's a famous public transport for londoners and second cheapest after bus rather than taxi and others method of transportation. The fare from London Heathrow to City of London (Bayswater) is only 4 pound sterling, Bayswater is the station i will stop to make my way to Malaysia Hall London, my first accommodation in London, here i will travel alone, the Malaysia Hall or MSH provide a basic room facilities ( Bed, Study table, Bathroom with Toilet and Heater) at a cost of 15.48 pound per night, i spend my night here before check in to another hotel (bed & breakfast) tommorrow on 19th January,

today on 19th January, i make my way to the tube station heading to Pimlico station for my next accommodation that i already book earliest before i come here, the B&B located in Victoria area and located at Warwick Way, the B&B (Victoria & Tudor Inn) is the cheapest accommodation for the backpackers to budget tourist, the room is comes with breakfast and the bathroom is attache but the toilet is located outside the room, so u have to share the toilet.

My Journey II

Today i will continue blogging about my journey to United Kingdom, but i read a shocking news that London now is snowing, ah.... why it's snow now, not the time i still in London.

I been in Portsmouth for Three days from 16th until 18th January, let me share something about Portsmouth. Portsmouth is a city located in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. Portsmouth is the UK's only island city and is located on Portsea Island.[2] It is commonly nicknamed Pompey. The administrative unit itself has a population of 197,700, which forms part of the wider Portsmouth conurbation, with an estimated 442,252 residents within wider the urban area,[citation needed] making it the 11th largest urban area in England. At the 2001 census it was the only city in England with a greater population density (4,639/km² (12,015/sq mi)) than London as a whole (4,562/km² (11,816/sq mi)), although many of London's individual boroughs had a much greater density.

A significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth is home to the world's oldest dry dock still in use and home to many famous ships, including Nelson's flagship HMS Victory. Portsmouth has declined as a naval base in recent years but remains a major dockyard and base for the Royal Navy. There is also a commercial port serving destinations on the continent for freight and passenger traffic.

The Spinnaker Tower is a recent addition to the city's skyline. It can be found in the recently redeveloped area known as Gunwharf Quays.

The Portsmouth Urban Area covers an area with a population well over twice that of the city of Portsmouth itself, and includes Fareham, Portchester, Gosport, Havant (which includes the large suburbs of Leigh Park), Lee-on-the-Solent, Stubbington and Waterlooville.

The suburbs of Portsmouth, and Southampton to the west, arguably form a conurbation stretching from Southampton to Havant on the M27/A27 road along the coast, and north to Clanfield on the A3 road.

Most of Portsmouth's tourist attractions are related to its naval history. In the last decade Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard has been given a much needed face-lift. Among the attractions are the D-Day museum (which holds the Overlord embroidery) and, in the dockyard, HMS Victory, the remains of Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose (raised from the seabed in 1982), HMS Warrior (Britain's first iron-clad steamship) and the Royal Naval Museum.

Many of the city's former defences now host museums or events. Several of the Victorian era forts on Portsdown Hill are now tourist attractions. Fort Nelson is now home to the Royal Armouries museum,[28] Forts Purbrook and Widley are activities centres.[29] the Tudor era Southsea Castle has a small museum, and much of the seafront defences up to the Round Tower are open to the public. The southern part of the once large Royal Marines Eastney Barracks is now the Royal Marine Museum.[30] There are also many buildings in the city that occasionally host open days particularly those on the D-Day walk which are seen on signs around the city which note sites of particularly importance in the city to Operation Overlord.

The city also hosts the D-Day museum a short distance from Southsea Castle; this museum is home to the famous Overlord Tapestry.[31]

Portsmouth's long association with the armed forces means it has a large number of war memorials around the city, including several at the Royal Marines Museum, at the dockyards and in Victoria Park. In the city centre, the Guildhall Square Cenotaph displays the names of the fallen, and is guarded by stone sculptures of machine gunners carved by the sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger.[32] The memorial is inscribed:

THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF PORTSMOUTH IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO IN THE GLORIOUS MORNING OF THEIR DAYS FOR ENGLAND'S SAKE LOST ALL BUT ENGLAND'S PRAISE. MAY LIGHT PERPETUAL SHINE UPON THEM.

The millennium project to build the Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays was completed in 2005. The tower is 552 ft tall and features viewing decks at sea level, 325 ft, 341 ft and 357 ft.

Other tourist attractions include the birthplace of Charles Dickens, the Blue Reef Aquarium (formerly the Sea Life Centre), Cumberland House (a natural history museum), The Royal Marines Museum and Southsea Castle. Southsea's seafront is also home to Clarence Pier Amusement Park.

Portsmouth is also home to the Genesis Expo, the UK's first (and to date only) creationist museum.

English Heritage and the Ministry of Defence are in the process of turning the Portsmouth Block Mills into a museum.

My Journey

It's been a long time i didn't post anything here, i just came back from my journey to the north of the earth, that is united kingdom, at the first i think the trip will be cancel due my schedule of studies but at the last minute changing the dream come true, with the ticket i had from Malaysia Airlines (MH004) i fly directly to London Heathrow from Kuala Lumpur on 15th January 2009 at 2355 Malaysia time, i have a nice view window seat (eventhough is already midnite) on B747-400 and lucky for me the middle and aisle seat is vacant, so all the seat is belong to me. what a wonderful world again, my flight had been delayed for 1 hour because of the heavy traffic at India airspace (that was inform by the captain), we had been served with juice and peanuts during the waiting time on the KLIA tarmac, after got a permission from the KLIA control tower, the journey began, the flight path is through Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Amsterdam and lastly United Kingdom.

Arrived at London Heathrow on 16th January 2009 at 0530 London time (1330 Malaysia time) the B747 is been given permission to park at Terminal 3, and the airport experience is quite okay rather than Sydney Airport, we didnt have to declare food product, medical product but immigration people is love to ask a lot of question here, but everything is easy and smooth. the airport seen simple and technological and on going process of modernized due to higher capacity of people entering this airport.

My first experience here is the weather, it's so damn cold for me, because it's my first time experience the really cold winter not like Dubai and Sydney, what is fun to me when i speak, smoke will come out from my mouth without smoking, i had a drink at smal coffee shop inside the airport and start to browsing through internet at the kiosk that been provided, i have to pay 2 pounds for 30 minutes use of internet, owh i forgot to tell why i have to wait at the airport, actually i have to wait my cousin flying from amsterdam and i will join him heading to portsmouth at southern of United Kingdom, at nice and lovely port city like Port Klang in Malaysia. Portsmouth located at southern of UK and the sea that is near here is English Channel, the Channel that separate UK with Europe Countries such as France, Spain and so on.
